ESCAP Convenes Seminar on Green Growth Policy Tools in Thailand

The seminar on Green Growth Policy Tools for Low Carbon Development in Thailand took place at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok from 23-24 February 2011, and aimed to introduce sustainable and low-carbon growth options to support implementation of Thailand's 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan.

24 February 2011: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), together with the Government of Thailand, convened a seminar on Green Growth Policy Tools for Low Carbon Development in Thailand, at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, from 23-24 February 2011.

The seminar was the first in a series of green growth capacity development events designed introduce sustainable and low-carbon growth options to support implementation of Thailand’s 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan. The seminar was attended by Thai officials and policy makers, and introduced participants to available policy tools for fostering green growth and low-carbon development. A key outcome was the establishment of a platform for further collaboration and development of green growth strategies and applications.

Thailand’s 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan underlines the need for green growth pricing and legal tools to support change in energy production and consumption, and promotes new ways of life and consumption behavior. [UN ESCAP Press Release]
