The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published preliminary data on emissions from passenger cars in the EU, and will provide confirmed data at the end of October 2011, allowing consumers to compare the carbon efficiency of cars from different manufacturers.
29 June 2011: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published preliminary data on emissions from passenger cars in the EU, and will provide confirmed data at the end of October 2011.
The EEA has launched a public database comprising detailed data submitted by EU Member States, which are required under relevant EU legislation to record information for each new passenger car registered in their territory. Every year, member States will submit to the European Commission information related to new registrations, including details related to specific emissions of carbon dioxide, fuel type, fuel mode and engine capacity.
The data submitted by member States is considered provisional until confirmed by the European Commission on 31 October 2011, following a three-month scrutiny period during which manufacturers may notify the Commission of any errors in the data. The EEA will make available a new data viewer with confirmed data, allowing consumers to compare the carbon efficiency of cars from different manufacturers.
