ECREEE28 March 2014: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) held a regional workshop on the development of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency National Action Plans and Sustainable Energy For All (SE4ALL) Action Agendas.

In July 2013, ECOWAS passed the Renewable Energy Policy (EREP) and the ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Policy (EEEP) as voluntary commitments under the SE4ALL initiative.

The workshop, held from 17-19 March 2014, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, gathered policymakers, experts, donors, and international organizations to support the development of the national level planning required to implement the EREP and EEEP. Participants heard presentations about donor and international organization services and financing available to support them, lessons from ECOWAS countries who have begun the planning process already, and best practices for beginning the planning processes.

The event was co-organized by ECREEE and the governments of Cote d’Ivoire, Austria and Spain as well as the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Global Environment Facility (GEF). [ECREEE Press Release] [AfDB Press Release] [Presentations from workshop]
