31 January 2013: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)’s Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) organized annually since 2001, discussed sustainability challenges across different business sectors as well as resource-efficient growth. The 2013 Summit was organized around the theme “The Global Challenge of Resource Efficient Growth and Development.”

DSDS is an international platform for exchange of knowledge on all aspects of sustainable development. Addressing the Summit, Haruhiko Kuroda, Asian Development Bank (ADB) President, called for de-coupling economic growth from the intensive use of natural resources, noting that climate risks are “damaging our food, water, and energy security.” Emphasizing the challenges posed by climate change, Donald Kaberuka, African Development Bank (AfDB) President, noted that the political will and compromise needed to reach an international deal on climate change and on climate finance remains limited.

The Summit was preceded by the World CEO Sustainability Summit (WCSS), organized by TERI-Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD), in association with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), which focused on the theme “Resource Revolution: A global imperative and how business can shape it.” [Delhi Summit Website] [AfDB President’s Statement] [ADB President’s Statement] [TERI Press Release]
