21 January 2009: A new documentary on the work of the UN entitled “Planet UN” had its world premiere at the Organization’s Headquarters in New York, US. The film calls for unprecedented and concerted global efforts to confront threats such as the food, energy and financial crises, climate change and nuclear threats.
At a press conference ahead of the premiere, UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Kiyotaka Akasaka explained that the film presents the work of the Organization in confronting the challenges of the century through three main themes: peacekeeping, development and human rights. The film features interviews with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other senior UN officials, and is directed by French documentary-maker Romuald Sciora. [UN Press Release]
