CPF Discusses Role in Post-2015 Development Agenda Discussions

CPF6 January 2014: The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) released the report of its 2013 retreat, which convened from 2-3 July 2013. The report highlights past achievements and agrees on key actions to progress the work of the CPF.

In particular, the meeting considered the outcomes of the tenth meeting of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF10) and preparation for the eleventh meeting (UNFF11) highlighting the areas of: sustainable forest management (SFM); valuation, financing and private sector investment; knowledge, science, research, communication and capacity building; country actions; and governance and the Forest Instrument.

The meeting further discussed the role of the CPF in the post-2015 UN development agenda and agreed to develop a document highlighting the need for a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on forests given the cross-cutting aspects and multiple benefits of forests.

Other activities reported on during the meeting include the Global Landscape Forum, the International Day of Forests, and the CPF Wangari Maathai Awards. The meeting also considered a series of factsheets on SFM, harmonized reporting and socio-economic indicators for 2015, and forests and food security as the next topic for the Global Forest Expert Panel.
