Consultations to Begin on Summit-level HLPF

The Permanent Representative of El Salvador will lead intergovernmental consultations on the HLPF meeting under the auspices of the UN General Assembly for the first time since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda.

The UNGA President informed Member States that she intends to put forward a proposed organization of the activities for the Forum’s meeting based on recommendations resulting from the consultations.

13 February 2019: UN Member States will hold informal consultations to prepare for a summit-level meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) convening in September 2019. Ruben Armando Escalante Hasbun, Permanent Representative of El Salvador, will lead the preparatory consultations.

UN General Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces announced the appointment in a letter to Member States on 13 February 2019. She notes that the Forum will meet under the UNGA’s auspices from 23-24 September 2019.

Espinosa also informs governments that she intends to put forward a proposed organization of the activities for the Forum’s meeting based on recommendations resulting from the consultations.

The Forum is mandated to meet at the level of heads and state and government every four years to review overall progress on the 2030 Agenda and all 17 SDGs, identify progress and persisting and emerging challenges, provide political guidance on implementation, and mobilize further action to accelerate implementation.
