Comoros, Mongolia and Syria Ratify ABS Protocol

Comoros, Mongolia and the Syrian Arab Republic have ratified the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS), bringing the number of ratifications to 18.

CBD6 June 2013: The Comoros, Mongolia and the Syrian Arab Republic have ratified the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS), bringing the number of ratifications to 18.

The three countries join Albania, Botswana, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, India, Jordan, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia (Federated States of), Panama, Rwanda, Seychelles and South Africa, which have already ratified the Protocol.

The Nagoya Protocol on ABS will enter into force 90 days after the deposit of the 50th instrument of ratification. If this happens on time, the first Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol will be held concurrently with the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to be held from 6-17 October 2014, in Pyeongchang, the Republic of Korea.
