unga694 December 2014: The co-facilitators for intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda issued a draft decision on the dates for the negotiation sessions. The calendar proposed by Macharia Kamau (Kenya) and David Donoghue (Ireland) has been revised to include eight meetings between January and July 2015, for a total of 36 days.

The draft decision was issued following consultations on 3 December 2014, where Member States responded to the co-facilitators’ “food for thought” paper of 17 November. That document proposed ten negotiation sessions totaling 45 days.

By the draft decision, the Assembly would also: provide for an additional five days for joint meetings with other relevant processes; ask the Secretary-General to use available resources to enhance the active participation of representatives from developing countries, particularly from LDCs, in each negotiation session; and stress the need for flexibility in convening negotiation meetings and the possibility to convene additional meetings.

The co-facilitators planned to submit the draft decision to the President of the UN General Assembly for action by the Assembly “unless we hear differently” from Member States by 8 December. [Draft Decision] [IISD RS Story on 3 December Consultations]
