4 February 2013: The co-facilitators for the preparatory process for the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) Special Event to follow up on efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), to be held in September 2013, have issued an informal “Food for Thought” paper regarding the consultations.

The paper addresses both the modalities and substance of the process.

On modalities, the co-facilitators put forward a suggestion that the event meet for one day, on 25 September 2013, and consist of a short opening plenary, round table discussion(s), and short wrap-up plenary.

On substance, the paper outlines key questions on the extent to which the Special Event will begin to map out the post-2015 landscape, and how it will take account of the ongoing work on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the Open Working Group (OWG), in addition to the Event’s focus on achievement of the MDGs.

Kingsley Mamabolo, South Africa, and Anne Anderson, Ireland, were appointed co-facilitators for the process in January 2013. The first round of consultations will take place on 15 February 2013.
