cms aewa15 January 2014: The Secretariats of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the UN Environment Programme/African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement UNEP/AEWA have announced the release of the ‘Manual for the National Focal Points (NFPs) for CMS and its Instruments.’

The manual was developed in response to paragraph four of the CMS Conference of the Parties (COP) Resolution 10.6, 2012-2014 on Capacity Building Activities. The publication is designed to guide NFPs on their roles and responsibilities with regard to the implementation of the Convention and its instruments. It also aims to improve the participation of NFPs in decision-making and sharing knowledge related to the Convention and its Instruments. To date, one training session accompanying the manual, for the Africa region has been held.

The manual, available in English, French and Spanish, was produced with the support of the Thematic Programme for Environment and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources including Energy (ENRTP) Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the European Commission and UNEP, under the project Effective Implementation of CMS, AEWA and Other CMS Family Instruments across Various Regions and Languages through Capacity Building over the Period 2012-2014.
