Clean Energy Ministerial Update Highlights Preparations for CEM3

The Spring 2012 Update from the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Secretariat outlines meetings and activities building to the 3rd CEM (CEM3), including a preparatory meeting in New Delhi, India, and the CEM partnership with the UN Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All).

10 April 2012: The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Secretariat has released its Spring 2012 Update, describing activities in the lead-up to the third CEM (CEM3), to be held on 25-26 April in London, UK.

The update outlines preparations for CEM3, including a meeting held on 2-3 February in New Delhi, India, where delegates discussed, inter alia: the achievements to date of 11 action-driven CEM initiatives; the goals and agenda for CEM3; and topics for public-private roundtable discussions at CEM3. The eight roundtable topics selected include: carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS); electric vehicles; energy efficiency finance; large-scale efficiency programs; solar photovoltaic (PV); super-efficient appliances; and variable renewables integration. Planning for CEM4 in 2013 was also begun; India hosted the preparatory meeting in its capacity as host of the fourth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4). In addition, the United Arab Emirates (UEA), China, and Sweden proposed launching a new CEM initiative focused on sustainable cities.

The update also highlights the partnership between CEM and the UN Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All), which, by 2012 aims for universal energy access, doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency and doubling the role of renewable energy the global energy mix.
