7 May 2012: The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) has published the Chair’s Summary of the recent third CEM in London, UK, which took place from 25-26 April, 2012. The Summary reviews the events and outcomes of the meeting and also notes key interventions made by participating Ministers and observers in sessions on clean energy, energy efficiency, energy for all, and cross-cutting topics.

The interventions noted in the Chair’s Summary are broadly supportive of the role of the CEM and its activities. Many countries highlighted their ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions via renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. Others noted partnerships made to improve financing and accelerate deployment of renewables in developing countries.

It further explains that Ministers participated in eight public-private roundtables co-organized with the World Economic Forum (WEF), and summarizes co-chair interventions at a meeting of the High Level Group of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Ministers also discussed a strategic expansion of the membership of the CEM and India confirmed that it will host the fourth CEM in 2013. The governments represented at the CEM were Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Observers included the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the ClimateWorks Foundation were also present.
