29 April 2011: The Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), a forum for cooperation on electric vehicles organized by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), met in Shanghai, China, from 20-22 April 2011, at the International Forum on Electric Vehicle Pilot City and Industrial Development.
During the meeting, EVI members discussed their target of creating nearly six million electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2020. Key outcomes of the meeting included: plans on data collection and analysis across countries and cities; agreement to work with the public and private sector to encourage market development; establishment of a common understanding of issues surrounding codes and standards; and a focus on improving cooperation on research and development. EVI members represent 13 countries making up over 80% of the world’s production of cars, and is likely to represent over 80% of the production and sales of electric vehicles over the next decade.
