Civil G20 Russia Prepares for Summit

Civil G20 Russia, a group of NGOs, grassroots groups, academics and others, has established a secretariat, which will be responsible for organizing parallel events to the Group of 20 (G20) Summit - convening in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in September 2013 - and the first G20 Civil Summit ("Civil-20"), on 10-12 June 2013.

Civil G20 is supported by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), WWF, Greenpeace and Oxfam, among others.

January 2013: Civil G20 Russia, a group of NGOs, grassroots groups, academics and others, has established a secretariat, which will be responsible for organizing parallel events to the Group of 20 (G20) Summit – convening in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in September 2013 – and the first G20 Civil Summit (“Civil-20”), on 10-12 June 2013. Civil G20 is supported by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), WWF, Greenpeace and Oxfam, among others.

Civil G20 Russia aims to ensure the transparency, review and evaluation processes of the G20, as well as to monitor its outcomes and commitments.

In addition to the in-person events, throughout the Russian Federation’s G20 presidency in 2013, Civil G20 working groups will hold online dialogues on: food security, anti-corruption, post-2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), financial inclusion and financial education, environmental sustainability and energy, jobs and employment and global financial architecture.

Civil G20 expects to produce the following documents for consideration during the preparatory process leading up to the G20 Summit: G20 Civil Society Working Groups recommendations for the G20 Working Groups and G20 Leaders Summit; and a Global Civil Society Report to the G20 leaders, titled “Towards Enhancing G20 Efficiency for the Peoples of the G20 and Global Community. Next steps.” In addition, the group has already drafted a report on G20 implementation of key decisions made by G20 leaders.
