CITES Secretary-General Welcomes South Asian Wildlife Enforcement Network

The Secretary-General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has welcomed the creation of the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SA-WEN), which aims to improve communication, collaboration and coordination in the fight against wildlife crime.

4 February 2011: The Secretary-General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has welcomed the creation of the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SA-WEN, or SAWEN), launched on 30 January 2011 with the aim of improving communication, collaboration and coordination in the fight against wildlife crime.

Noting that the Chinese Year of the Tiger ended on 3 February 2011, the CITES Secretariat welcomes the measures taken during the year to conserve tigers, including the Saint Petersburg International Tiger Forum in November 2010 and the launch of the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime.
