CIFOR11 February 2015: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has launched a learning toolbox as part of its Sustainable Wetlands Adaptation Mitigation Program (SWAMP), which aims to support policy makers and practitioners “to begin the daunting task of compiling evidence and crafting policy” to protect tropical wetlands.

The SWAMP toolbox contains a series of online and downloadable presentations to guide users in understanding the importance of wetlands ecosystems as carbon reservoirs for climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies at the global, national and local levels. It is designed to be used as a training and educational resource, as well as a knowledge repository for practitioners interested in developing carbon projects in wetlands.

SWAMP is a collaborative capacity development programme implemented by CIFOR, the USDA Forest Service and Oregon State University, with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). It is currently operating in 25 countries. CIFOR is a member of the CGIAR consortium.[CIFOR Press Release] [SWAMP Toolbox]
