CIFOR Names Peter Holmgren as New Director General

Peter Holmgren (Sweden) will be replacing Frances Seymour as the Director General of CIFOR, the CGIAR organization that focuses on conducting research to inform policies and practices that affect forests in developing countries.

8 June 2012: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has appointed Peter Holmgren (Sweden) as its new Director General, effective September 2012.

Holmgren is currently the Director of Climate, Energy and Food Security at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). He previously led the Global Forest Resources Assessment and headed the forest resources development at FAO. Holmgren will replace Frances Seymour, who has led CIFOR since 2006.

CIFOR is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CIFOR advances human wellbeing, environmental conservation and equity by conducting research to inform policies and practices that affect forests in developing countries. [CGIAR Press Release]
