CIAT Releases Video Diary on Importance of Wild Crop Diversity
story highlights

CIAT work at Kew Gardens will plan for a gap analysis to identify which species are most threatened in the wild and which might be most important for climate change adaptation.

3 February 2011: In a video diary taken at Kew Gardens in London, UK, Andy Jarvis, senior scientist at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), stressed the importance of conserving wild relatives of agricultural species.

In the video, Jarvis describes how wild relatives of agricultural species may contribute to climate change adaptation. He outlines the goals of CIAT’s work at Kew Gardens to plan for a gap analysis to identify which species are most threatened in the wild and which might be most important for climate change adaptation. Jarvis notes that, once priority species are identified, Kew Gardens and its international partners will attempt to collect these. CIAT is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [CIAT Video Diary]
