China, Qatar and Kenya Join Global Green Growth Forum

Ahead of its third annual meeting, the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), the Forum has announced that China, Kenya and Qatar have joined as partners.

China is investing over US$350 billion in energy efficiency over the next few years, while Kenya is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa and plans to pioneer green growth concepts.

The Forum is an initiative of the Government of Denmark, as a global public-private partnership.

21 September 2012: China, Kenya and Qatar have joined Denmark, Mexico and the Republic of Korea as partners in the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF 2012), the Forum announced. The second meeting of the 3GF will take place from 8-9 October 2012, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

According to Denmark’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Villy Søvndal, this year’s meeting will focus on “developing concrete ideas on the way forward through cooperation between governments, the private sector and international organizations.”

The Forum notes that China is investing more than US$350 billion in energy efficiency measures over the next three and a half years, Qatar has become key to bridging the transition from a carbon-intensive to a low-carbon society, and Kenya, as one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa, also plans to pioneer green growth concepts.

3GF is an initiative of the Government of Denmark. In addition to the government partners, it includes business such as General Electric, Hyundai Motors and Samsung, and international agencies such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Energy Agency (IEA), the UN Global Compact, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Climate Policy Initiative and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
