CFS22 June 2016: The fourth meeting of the Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) finalized a proposal on CFS engagement in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The proposal will be submitted to CFS’ 43rd plenary session in October 2016, along with a draft decision.

Held on 22 June 2016 at the headquarters of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), in Rome, Italy, the meeting heard an update on developments in New York, US related to the 2030 Agenda, including the final draft resolution on the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and preparations for the 2016 session of the High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF).

Participants then discussed the proposal on CFS engagement to advance the 2030 Agenda. Discussions addressed: CFS’ mandate of relevance to the implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda, including its mandate on policy convergence and coherence; the process for approving and submitting CFS inputs to the HLPF; and communication and outreach. The OEWG also addressed a draft decision and a document mapping CFS products for the 2030 Agenda.

Following revision by the Secretariat, the proposal and draft decision will be forwarded to a meeting of the Bureau on 8 July, and submitted to the 43rd session of the CFS, convening from 17-22 October 2016.
