UNFCCC30 January 2013: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has reached the 6,000 project milestone, with the registration of the “Phuong Mai 3 Wind Power Project,” a wind power project in Viet Nam expected to reduce 32,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per year.

The first CDM project was registered on 18 November 2004, and there are now over 6000 registered CDM projects in 83 developing countries, covering a wide range of project types. In the past ten years, CDM projects have delivered 110,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.

The 6,000th registered project will install 21 megawatts of wind power capacity to feed the electric power grid in south central Viet Nam, displacing fossil-fuel-generated power. [CDM Press Release]
