UNFCCC28 November 2014: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board has called on countries to renew their commitment to the CDM, highlighting its effectiveness and continuing role in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and contributing to sustainable development as well as its potential to effectively serve the ultimate objective of the UNFCCC.

The call was made by the Board at its 81st meeting, which took place from 24-28 November 2014 in Lima, Peru, ahead of the Lima Climate Change Conference in December 2014. At the meeting, the Board also agreed that an online platform for voluntary cancellation of certified emission reductions (CERs) should be developed and requested the UNFCCC Secretariat to begin the development process.

In addition, the Board adopted its one-year management plan for 2015, in support of its two-year business plan adopted at its 75th meeting. It also considered matters relating to: the numbers, frequency and timing of assessments of designated operational entities (DOEs); and the operation of its panels and working groups. Regarding the proposal for a partial adoption of the CDM accreditation system by the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC), the Board agreed that implementing this proposal will require a decision of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP).
