CDM Executive Board Calls for Public Inputs on New Methodologies and Standardized Baselines
story highlights

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board has launched four calls for public inputs on: a draft new renewable energy methodology; guidelines on suppressed demand; standardized baselines; and new small scale methodologies.

UNFCCC29 September 2011: At its 63rd meeting, the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) agreed to open four new calls for public input on a new draft renewable energy methodology, suppressed demand, standardized baselines and new draft small scale methodologies.

The first call is a call for inputs on the draft new methodology “Renewable energy power generation in isolated grids” and tool “Project and leakage emissions from composting.” Inputs received to this call will be taken into consideration in the finalization of the drafts by the CDM Methodologies Panel. The call is open from 30 September to 10 October 2011.

The second is a call for inputs from project participants and stakeholders to make proposals on how to further improve and clarify the “Guidelines on the consideration of suppressed demand in CDM methodologies,” and revise methodologies to integrate the aspects of suppressed demand. The summary of inputs received will be considered by the Methodologies Panel and the working groups at their future meetings. This call is open from 30 September to 30 October 2011.

The third call for public inputs is in relation to standardized approaches for baseline emission calculations under small scale CDM methodologies for displacement of non-renewable biomass. In particular, public input is invited on how to quantify the fraction of non-renewable biomass and on what default parameters for baseline fuel wood consumption would be appropriate. The inputs received will be considered by the Small Scale Working Group at its 35th meeting. This call is open from 30 September to 30 October 2011.

The fourth call is for public inputs on two top-down developed draft small scale methodologies. The first methodology is the “Demand-side energy efficiency activities for installation of energy efficient lighting and/or controls in buildings” and public input is sought on issues related to, among other things, applicability to Greenfield projects and level of complexity. The second methodology is the “Solar cookers for households” and public input is sought on, among other things, the approach for determining reduction in fossil fuel consumption that is attributable to the introduction of solar cookers. The inputs received will be considered by the Small Scale Working Group at its 35th meeting. This call is open from 30 September to 30 October 2011.
