In an effort to challenge common assumptions about women farmers, their role in farming systems and their inherent vulnerability to climate change, the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program brought together experts to better understand how to map out and explain the impact of gender roles on how men and women farmers adapt to climate change.
30 October 2013: In an effort to challenge common assumptions about women farmers, their role in farming systems and their inherent vulnerability to climate change, the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program brought together experts to better understand how to map out and explain the impact of gender roles on how men and women farmers adapt to climate change.
The Workshop on Gender Training and Strategizing took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 22-25 October 2013, with the aim of helping to improve gender and climate change research. The workshop considered organizational gender research strategies, qualitative and quantitative research, and gender research tools.
Participants from CCAFS five regional groups prepared plans to better link gender into their regional CCAFS research. They called on researchers to integrate gender as a key concept from the beginning of research activities, and ensure gender-differentiated data collection. They stressed that gender is not about women’s issues, but rather about men and women and their negotiated relationships.
