CCAFS Examines Impacts of Climate Variability on Agriculture

In an effort to understand the impacts of annual fluctuations in rainfall and temperature and how they differ from the impacts expected from climate change, the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program has published a working paper that describes simulations of climate change on annual and decadal variability and long-term climate change.

CCAFS25 February 2014: In an effort to understand the impacts of annual fluctuations in rainfall and temperature and how they differ from the impacts expected from climate change, the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program has published a working paper that describes simulations of climate change on annual and decadal variability and long-term climate change.

The working paper, titled ‘Simulation of near-term climate change at target sites in West and East Africa,’ presents simulations that can be used to better understand the impacts of uncertainties in natural variability and long-term change on agricultural variability. The analyses focus on two locations in Western and Eastern Africa, relying on data from Kaffrine in Senegal and Machakos in Kenya.

CCAFS is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). This work complements a range of modelling research undertaken through the CCAFS program and by partners at Columbia University.
