CBD Secretariat Surveying National Approaches on Assessing Progress towards Aichi Targets

In preparation for the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated a survey, conducted in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), to collect information related to the different approaches used by Parties to assess national progress towards the achievement of the Aichi biodiversity targets, as well as on the use of global-level data to support monitoring of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity.

CBD2 April 2015: In preparation for the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated a survey, conducted in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme – World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), to collect information related to the different approaches used by Parties to assess national progress towards the achievement of the Aichi biodiversity targets, as well as on the use of global-level data to support monitoring of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity.

The AHTEG will convene from 29 June – 2 July 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland, and nominations for participation are being accepted until 24 April 2015. The survey results will assist in the preparation of background documents for the AHTEG and the development of a roadmap to support practitioners on national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) in using global datasets for national biodiversity monitoring.
