CBD Secretariat Requests Views on REDD+ Safeguards

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has requested submission of views with regard to relevant safeguards in REDD+, possible indicators to assess the contribution of REDD+ to achieving the CBD objectives, and views on mechanisms to monitor impacts from REDD+ on biodiversity.

24 January 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has requested submission of views with regard to relevant safeguards in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+).

In addition, the CBD Secretariat has requested submission of possible indicators to assess the contribution of REDD+ to achieving the CBD objectives, as well as views on potential mechanisms to monitor impacts from REDD+ and other ecosystem-based approaches for climate change mitigation measures on biodiversity. The CBD Secretariat has prepared a questionnaire to be used in the submissions. The deadline for submissions is 30 April 2011.
