12 July 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the July volume of its “REDD+ and Biodiversity” newsletter.

The newsletter aims to inform CBD National Focal Points and CBD partners about biodiversity aspects in relation to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks ( REDD+). The July issue contains information on: the Global Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Benefits of REDD+, tentatively scheduled to take place from 20-24 September 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya; the outcomes of the 14th meeting of the CBD Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-14), which took place in Nairobi, from 10-22 May 2010; the Rio Conventions’ Ecosystems and Climate Change Pavilion; the launch by the UN Environment Programme – World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) of a new website on carbon, biodiversity and ecosystem services; and the CBD LifeWeb platform.
