CBD REDD+ and Biodiversity Newsletter Focuses on Rio+20 Outcomes

Aiming to inform CBD National Focal Points and CBD partners about biodiversity aspects in relation to REDD+, the July-August issue of the REDD+ & Biodiversity E-Newsletter includes updates on the outcomes of, and forest-related contributions to, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and a review of recent publications.

CBDAugust 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the July-August issue of its “REDD+ & Biodiversity E-Newsletter.” The newsletter aims to inform CBD National Focal Points and CBD partners about biodiversity aspects in relation to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+).

The issue features updates on: the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20); the joint publication on forests launched by the three Rio Conventions at Rio+20 under the title “Action on Forests;” the contribution of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) at Rio+20 and CPF factsheets on sustainable forest management; and new publications, including a new report on potential biodiversity benefits from REDD+ in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and the Rights and Resources Initiative’s annual review “Turning Point: What future for forest peoples and resources in the emerging world order?” [Publication: REDD+ & Biodiversity E-Newsletter July-August 2012]
