The International Workshop on Innovative Financial Mechanisms convened from 27-29 January 2010, in Bonn, Germany, and was organized by the CBD in collaboration with The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) Secretariat located at the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Workshop participants assessed the status of knowledge and related use concerning innovative financial mechanisms at all levels, and developed policy options concerning payment for ecosystem services, biodiversity offsets, environmental fiscal reforms, market for green products, business-biodiversity partnerships and charity, new and innovative sources of international development finance, climate change funding and biodiversity, as well as new emerging issues. The Global Mechanism of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) participated in the workshop, chairing a discussion on environmental fiscal reform.
