Caribbean Holds First Regional Preparatory Meeting for SIDS 2014

The Caribbean Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2014 Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) opens on 2 July 2013, in Kingston, Jamaica.

The meeting is the first in the series of three regional preparatory meetings for the Conference, which will take place in Apia, Samoa, from 1-4 September 2014.

sids20141 July 2013: The Caribbean Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2014 Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) opens on 2 July 2013, in Kingston, Jamaica. The meeting is the first in a series of three regional preparatory meetings for the Conference, which will take place in Apia, Samoa, from 1-4 September 2014.

The Caribbean meeting will consider: the SIDS sustainable development agenda from a Caribbean perspective as well as implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action (BPoA) and the Mauritius Strategy of Implementation (MSI); integrated approaches regarding the emerging UN institutional framework (including outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and the post-2015 development agenda); and partnership.

The meeting is expected to draft and adopt a Regional Outcome Document, which will be presented to the Inter-Regional Preparatory Meeting to be held in Barbados in late August 2013. [IISD RS Meeting Coverage] [Website for 2014 Conference]
