cpl30 November 2015: Governments, businesses and NGOs launched the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference to support the expansion of effective carbon pricing, successful carbon pricing policy development and the use of carbon pricing in business.

Initiated by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2014, the Coalition was officially endorsed by the leaders of Canada, Chile, Ethiopia, France, Germany and Mexico during an event at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC. The Coalition brings together governments, global businesses and civil society organizations who have agreed to cooperate in the collection and sharing of evidence and experiences with regard to carbon pricing policies, and to mobilize business support for more ambitious action.

The members of the Coalition aim to develop pathways for companies, investors and governments that illustrate the impacts of different carbon pricing policies and timelines. The Coalition also seeks to establish leadership dialogues to accelerate the implementation of carbon pricing around the world.

The Coalition currently includes 14 governments, five provinces, 71 business partners and 25 international organizations.

The Coalition’s launch was among dozens of announcements by governments, the private sector and others on the opening day of COP 21, taking place in Paris, France, from 30 November-11 December 2015.
