story highlights

The recognition of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) by the Knowledge Center on Cities and Climate Change (K4C) provides new opportunities for the exchange of best practices and innovative initiatives on climate change issues in large cities.

10 May 2012: The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) has been identified as an Expert Institution by the Knowledge Center on Cities and Climate Change (K4C), which is expected to provide it increased opportunities for coordination and information exchange.

C40 considers its cooperation with K4C a recognition of its work on climate change actions in C40 cities and its analytic approach in this regard. K4C, which is a joint initiative of UNEP, Cities Alliance, UN-HABITAT and the World Bank, aims to provide support to cities, especially in developing countries, in addressing climate change. Offering online information, K4C provides: updates from the field on cities and climate change; the sharing of best practices; the facilitation of the exchange of innovative initiatives; and an online portal containing advanced search tools and an interactive map.

The C40 is a worldwide network of cities, which aims to implement climate-related activities at the local level in order to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency in large cities worldwide. The C40 was established in 2005 and formed a partnership with the Cities Program of the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) in 2006. [C40 blog] [K4C website]
