Speaking on behalf of the Alliance for Small Island States (AOSIS), the Maldives’ UN Permanent Representative Ahmed Sareer said the meeting would enable countries to identify areas of convergence and divergence, which could help “pave the road for a concrete outcome in Paris.” He also urged strengthening the adaptation pillar and including adequate, predictable and sustainable financing in the new agreement to ensure both the adaptation and mitigation needs of small island developing States (SIDS) and low-lying countries are addressed.

The informal meeting, which took place from 28-30 January 2015 in Tokyo, Japan, was held in advance of the ADP session to convene from 8-13 February 2015 in Geneva, Swizterland. [ADP Website] [AOSIS Press Release] [IISD RS Coverage of the Geneva ADP Session]
