16 June 2010: During a press conference held at UN Headquarters in New York, US, Bolivian Ambassador Pablo Solόn strongly objected to the advance draft of a revised text to facilitate negotiations among parties produced by the Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA) at its tenth session, held in Bonn, Germany, earlier in June.
Solόn noted that the advance draft did not reflect the submissions of his country and that other proposals from the Group of 77 had not been properly reflected. The submissions of Bolivia included points emerging from the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, which took place from 20-22 April 2010, in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Solόn warned that the advance draft would result in stalled talks, qualifying the the text as “imbalanced” and one-sided. He expressed the hope that the other working text, which is due by mid-July, would represent all interests. [Press Conference Transcript]
