Clean Energy Solutions Center25 February 2014: The Clean Energy Ministerial’s (CEM) Clean Energy Solutions Center and Bloomberg New Energy Finance have published their latest bi-annual briefing, summarizing investment, regulatory, and other developments in clean energy. The issue highlights that, while costs of renewables reduced in 2013, so did investment.

The briefing notes that renewable energy companies outperformed the wider market in 2013, and that renewable energy is at or near price parity with fossil fuels in many locations around the world. However, the briefing finds that reductions in governmental support for renewables makes further increases in deployment uncertain at this stage.

Other headlines in the briefing include that: China installed a record of at least 12 gigawatts of solar photovoltaic in 2013, with plans to install at least 14 in 2014; the US proposed limits on power plant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that will effectively require coal plants to use carbon capture and storage (CCS); and the EU, where investment in renewables slumped 41% over the previous year, is seeking a 27% share of renewables by 2030.
