Bioversity Publication Addresses Implementation of the ITPGR MLS in India

Entitled 'A road map for implementing the multilateral system of access and benefit-sharing in India' and published by Bioversity International and partners, this publication is a collection of 14 papers addressing a range of issues that are important to consider as India develops its strategy for implementing the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) and its multilateral system (MLS) of access and benefit-sharing (ABS).

Edited by M. Halewood, P. Brahmi, P.N. Mathur and K.C. Bansal, and published by Bioversity International, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and India’s National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, the publication includes papers considering, among other issues: flows of plant genetic resources into and out of India; the state of conservation and use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in India; the rationale for India’s decision to ratify the ITPGR; whether or not there is legal space to implement the MLS in India; linkages with efforts to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); how the MLS can provide support for efforts in India to exploit crop diversity to adapt to climate change; and ultimately, a road map for implementing the MLS in India.
