Bioversity International Newsletter Features Stories on IYF 2011

The newsletter describes current projects, recent meetings, publications and a call for grants in addition to general issue articles on biodiversity.

July 2011: Bioversity International has published the July 2011 issue of its “Newsletter for Europe,” featuring stories on the International Year of Forests 2011, preparation of the State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources, and the European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources.The issue also outlines results from various international meetings, including: the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the Forest Europe Process; the Near East and North Africa Plant Genetic Resource Network coordinating board meeting; FORESTTRAC; and working groups of the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources on barley and umbellifers.

The newsletter provides updates on projects, such as the European Vitis Database, organ sources for the cryopreservation of garlic, and regeneration and safety duplication of prioritized crop collections. It includes general interest articles on the Red Palm Weevil, FOREST EUROPE, a recently published training manual on plant diversity and distribution, forest genetic resources and e-learning courses.

Finally, the newsletter presents upcoming meetings and a call for competitive small grants scheme. Bioversity International is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [Publication: Newsletter for Europe, No. 43]
