Bioversity International11 December 2015: CGIAR Consortium’s Bioversity International has launched an online tool for plant breeders, researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders to build capacity in using crop genetic resources to improve farmers’ resilience and adaptation to climate change.

Developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Bioversity International researchers, the Resource Box for Resilient Seed Systems aims to provide practical knowledge and advice for the design and implementation of comprehensive capacity-building programmes for using crop diversity to support climate change adaptation. It is also intended to serve as a place where users can access selected resources for research and education and on the job training for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA).

The Resource Box contains eight modules covering: situational analysis and planning; data preparation and software selection; climate change analysis and identification of germplasm; germplasm acquisition; field-testing; germplasm conservation; participatory evaluation; and knowledge-sharing and communication. Each module contains an introduction to the topic, a list of online study materials and resources, and a quiz to review progress.
