Cbd3 November 2009: In his address to the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), stressed that biodiversity is part of the solution to climate change.
Adding that healthy terrestrial and marine ecosystems are essential to the health of the atmosphere, he underscored that biodiversity loss is being compounded by climate change. He drew attention to the CBD expert report on the interrelation between climate change and biodiversity, which will be submitted for consideration by the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC in Copenhagen, as well as by the CBD COP 10 in Nagoya, Japan.
