Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer28 September 2009: From 28 September-9 October 2009, the first part of the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (AWG-LCA 7) and the first part of the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) are taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.

These sessions form part of ongoing negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol to enhance international climate change cooperation. The negotiations are scheduled to conclude at the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009.
The AWG-LCA is expected to continue focusing on its negotiating text. The first part of AWG-KP 9 is expected to focus on the aggregate scale of Annex I parties’ emission reductions in the post-2012 period and the contribution of Annex I parties to this scale. [IISD RS coverage]
