AU Signs MOU with Africa Rice Center to Enhance Food Security on the Continent

The partnership undertakes to promote rice production technologies and strengthen capacities of relevant African institutions in the areas of: policy research and analysis; promoting production technologies and innovative agricultural systems; and policy communications and dialogue to inform and improve the design and implementation of food and agricultural policies.

12 July 2011: The African Union (AU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Africa Rice Center to enhance food security in Africa through increased collaboration and strengthened working relationships.

The MOU was signed on 12 July 2011 at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The partnership undertakes to promote rice production technologies and strengthen capacities of relevant African institutions in the areas of: policy research and analysis; promoting production technologies and innovative agricultural systems; and policy communications and dialogue to inform and improve the design and implementation of food and agricultural policies. It is expected that the collaboration will build on the Maputo Declaration on Agriculture and Food Security, which is implemented through the New Partnership for Development’s (NEPAD) Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
