3 June 2009: On the occasion of the first Global Private Donor Forum on Biodiversity, which took place in Berlin, Germany, on 3 June 2009, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), referred to the interlinkages between climate change and biodiversity loss.

He stressed that biodiversity loss can contribute to climate change, and that, in turn, climate change contributes to biodiversity loss, emerging as one of the leading causes.
