The Asian training workshop to further the implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) at the national level was held in Chennai, India, from 27-29 November 2007.

The main output of the workshop is an outline for a national mainstreaming strategy for each country present, which describes the steps to be undertaken in the short term to initiate the mainstreaming process in the respective countries. The outlines are aimed at raising governmental awareness of the opportunities created by mainstreaming of marine and coastal issues into national planning and budgetary processes (IISD Sources).
