The meeting of the REDD+ Development Dividend Task Force constituted the second phase of a Norwegian-funded project aimed at building the capacity of climate change negotiators and land managers in developing countries to negotiate for effective and fair international and national-level policies for REDD+.
4 February 2011: The ASB Partnership for the Tropical Forest Margins (ASB) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) held a meeting of the REDD+ Development Dividend Task Force in Manila, Philippines, on 25-26 January 2011.
The meeting brought together 15 negotiators and experts on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, plus the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) from the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Brazil, Cameroon, Ghana and the US. It constituted the second phase of a Norwegian-funded project aimed at building the capacity of climate change negotiators and land managers in developing countries to negotiate for effective and fair international and national-level policies for REDD+. The meeting focused discussions on modalities for strengthening measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), co-benefits, effective information sharing systems and benefit sharing mechanisms. Participants also discussed the need for guidance on minimum standards for policies and procedures for direct and indirect REDD+ impacts.
