2 September 2009: The Africa Partnership Forum’s (APF) one-day high-level session on climate change in Africa concluded with an expression of the region’s determination to make a significant contribution to efforts at reducing global emissions.

The session was held on 3 September 2009 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and was hosted by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Its objective was to highlight Africa’s concerns and expectations on climate change in the context of the ongoing global negotiations for a new climate change agreement to be reached at the fifteenth Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC, taking place in December in Copenhagen, in order to ensure that these are adequately addressed. During the session, participants were given updates on the ongoing negotiations, as well as thematic presentations on Africa’s key concerns and expectations in the context of the negotiations, including on: enhanced action on climate change mitigation and adaptation; financial resources and investment for climate change; technology development and transfer for climate change; carbon finance in Africa; and possibilities for Africa in global action on climate change. At the end of the session, a Joint Statement was presented, which outlined key messages from the session, including on mitigation, adaptation, technology and finance and underlined some of the actions required in these areas.
