20 November 2009: African ministers responsible for gender and women’s affairs met at the Eighth Regional Conference on Women (Beijing +15) Review Meeting from 16-20 November 2009, in Banjul, the Gambia, under the aegis of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Ministers adopted the Banjul Declaration on the Strategies for the Acceleration of the Implementation of the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action, focusing on seven key areas identified as critical for African women, including that “climate change and food security policies need to become more gender responsive.” [UNECA Press Release]
