8 June 2010: The fourth College-to-College Meeting between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission (EC) was held on 8 June 2010, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss the implementation of the Africa/EU Joint Strategy and its Plan of Action and address common challenges facing the two Commissions. The meeting adopted a Joint Declaration, containing a section on dialogue on climate policy.
According to the Joint Declaration, the AUC and the EC will pursue a strong and open dialogue on climate policy in order to build a common EU-Africa consensus for a legally binding agreement under the UNFCCC. The parties note the EU’s ongoing work on the implementation of the fast-start component of the Copenhagen Accord with a focus on Africa, which is expected to take into account the African Group’s proposals presented in Copenhagen and be linked to relevant international initiatives such as the High-Level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing.
