21 May 2010: The Africa Rice Center has reported on new research that shows that African rice is not inherently lower yielding than Asian rice and describes the adaptability of African rice to harsh growing conditions in Africa, hence its value for developing improved varieties suited to a changing climate.In a press release, the Africa Rice Center highlights the increasing importance of rice in African diets and advances made through the New Rice for Africa (NERICA) programme. In collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) the Africa Rice Center is developing a wide range of rice varieties suitable for the diverse ecologies of Africa.
